Quick Takes
Join us this Friday, April 25, from 1–3pm CDT
for short posts that lead to meaningful conversations.
Join us on UpTrust Friday April 25 for two hours of “Quick Takes”
Post the thing you’re not sure how to say. A half-thought. A question you’re circling. A sentence that feels quietly true — but maybe a little risky to share.
You don’t have to write an essay. You don’t have to argue your point.
Bring something unfinished — offered not as a declaration of unchanging truth, but as a beginning. Some ideas need more than one person to think them.
UpTrust is an experiment in restoring trust online. And one way we do that is by making it easier to start a conversation on ideas still forming, but still important to name — in a space where incompleteness is welcome.
Reclaim the Short Post
Post something short-
easy to write, easy to respond to.
On most character-limited sites, I notice short quips framed as certainty even on topics that are developing or unknowable. Posters are rewarded for outrageous hot takes or claiming an unnuanced perspective as absolute. Honestly, this irritates me, but it isn’t the worst of it. The deluge of “conversation” that follows this clickbait is prioritized based on attention metrics, and nuanced, credible perspectives get buried deeper and deeper.
So far on UpTrust, our site contributors have found a lot of freedom to post long-format, nuanced perspectives. This has led to some of the best conversations we’re aware of on the internet, but it can also take folks a lot of time to craft and read these posts.
We want to invite a couple of hours of intentionally short posts. Let’s see if, with the support of the UpTrust site culture and our algorithm, we can reclaim the 140-character post.
